Paving the way forward

The year 2022 will forever be a landmark one for Bangladeshi in terms of its infrastructure. This year saw the much-heralded Padma Bridge mega project finally come into fruition, culminating in the achievement of the promise of the incumbent administration in establishing permanent and efficient liaison between the south-west with the north-east of the country.

Keeping in line with such high expectations, Bangladesh is next set to officially open the Khulna-Mongla Railway Project as well.

This is another landmark achievement for our nation in terms of building infrastructure that facilities trade within our own borders. Aside from Chittagong, Mongla is home to one of the premiere ports of the country, as well as housing one of the more important export processing zones we have.

The port had made a profit of TK 340 crore in FY 21. With the opening of the railway, this number is expected to be boosted significantly higher due to better connectivity with the central railway system. And with the opening of the new track, it will also be easier to export Bangladeshi goods to Nepal and Bhutan.

In terms of expanding connectivity, as a country, we are truly living in unprecedented times.

The authorities deserve all the commendation for pulling off such a brilliant project. The railway project and the bridge are exemplary of the kind of quiet revolution that our nation needs -- one achieved through continuous improvements in our infrastructure apparatus.

This is exactly the sort of development that Bangladesh will need as we move ahead towards realizing our middle-income aspirations.
