But due to the steady efforts of the government and various advocacy groups, life for this community has increasingly been getting easier as our fellow citizens.
To that end, the success story of the government’s Ashrayan 2 project comes off as encouraging. With stories of transgender women from Brahbanbaria being able to turn around their lives under the program.
As marginalized as they are, the transgender community in Bangladesh is still a growing one, and the administration has taken some steps here and there that have helped people from this community. But more can always be done to extend official support for them.
According to official estimates, there are around 10,000 transgender people in Bangladesh. From social to economic ostracization, they have to face it all. But, thankfully, things are changing.
There have been efforts to build schools for people within this community, and we are starting to see more and more transgendered people within various spheres of our society. But while Bangladesh now officially recognizes transgendered people, they still face a lot of discrimination on an everyday basis.

Transgender rights are ultimately human rights, and a transgender citizen of Bangladesh has just as much of a claim to be protected from violence, abuse, and harassment as any other citizen. Equally, they also deserve the same level of support from their government.
There is much work to be done, but we are on the right track.
