In terms of digitization of services, while our nation has come a long way since its vision of a Digital Bangladesh, it is imperative that the government apparatus continue to embrace the power of technology and ensure full digitization of all its services. Not only will it mean that the service itself can be delivered more efficiently, but digitization of government activities will boost transparency as well.
On that note, it is good that the authorities have started a new ticketing service for the railway online, and although there are bumps, the authorities have started to pay serious attention to ensuring that the digital system performs smoothly, and in the process, ease troubles of travellers.
While there have been some glitches on the first day, including things like slow server speeds and other issues, the fact that we are paying attention to such issues and taking the steps is certainly encouraging. There are bound to be issues that arise during the initial stages; the important thing is for the authorities to see this through.
This could be a significant step to change our service sector and the authorities would do well to see this project to the end and see this is implemented properly. Collaboration with relevant stakeholders has to be given topmost priority and the authorities need to handle each crisis as they arise.
We are in the midst of a changing world, and for Bangladesh to not be lagging behind, the digitization of its services will be an extremely important component.
