It seems Bangladesh’s meteoric rise in the global economy is surely and steadily being recognized by the rest of the world as more and more nations come forward in maintaining and even improving bilateral ties with us.
To that end, we welcome Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah’s recent statement on wishing to elevate ties between our two countries to a more strategic level, with emphasis placed on the area of the digital economy.
This is Digital Bangladesh finally paying dividend.
Maintaining healthy bilateral relations is the cornerstone of any nation’s overall prosperity, and given that Malaysia is one of the bigger success stories in our continent, the administration would do well to harness this as an opportunity to further our goals as a nation.
One of those goals being the diversification of our overseas workers. As it stands, the majority of our overseas workers see Gulf nations as the de facto destination for foreign remittance. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen’s suggestion for Malaysia to start recruiting our skilled IT workforce is incisive and timely.
Our nation already has an established base of IT professionals that is rapidly expanding each year, and it remains an untapped potential in the global IT arena. It is indeed heartening for the administration to finally realize this potential and push for its adoption in a more global context. We hope the continued relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia is only a sign of things to come.
