As Bangladesh moves past the 50th anniversary of its independence, it is imperative that we remember the events which led up to that historic point in our history, and the events which followed.
It is important that the knowledge of our history and the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who fought for this nation’s independence are remembered by future generations who will carry the torch of those ideals forward.
It is through a solid understanding of our past events that future generations will find the inspiration, courage, and determination necessary to value the country in which they were born and appreciate their actions in the pursuit of freedom, actions which have led to Bangladesh being where it is now.
In this regard, historical accuracy and truth are of the utmost importance, and to ensure that such knowledge is consistently contributed to and expanded upon, we must invest in research that prioritizes the preservation of memory.
The Liberation War Museum is a testament to the history of our struggle and has over 25,000 pieces of memorabilia, including rare photographs, documents, coverage of the struggle, materials used by freedom fighters and martyrs, amongst a host of other invaluable items which trace the fascinating history of our nation back to 1971 and beyond.
It provides an opportunity for the present to look back so that it may be inspired to improve the future. A generation that does not know its history is doomed to repeat it, and we must create opportunities through which we continue to be educated in matters of Bangladesh’s past.
