Congratulations to the government on successfully hosting the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) here in Dhaka.
With its conclusion yesterday, Bangladesh has proven that it is as capable as any nation in hosting a major international event.
Bangladesh played host to 1,500 parliamentarians and delegates from 131 countries from all over the world to discuss issues which affect the lives of every single one of us.
In fact, what was even more encouraging is the subject matter of the IPU: Ending inequalities around the world. As a democratic nation, through this IPU, Bangladesh has shown that it can lead the way towards better governance.
The recent Comilla elections have proven that the Bangladeshi government has done well in ensuring that democracy in our country continues to get stronger every day.
The event, which was organised by the IPU and the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, discussed various ways to fight issues such as inequality, violence, and militancy, issues very much relevant in the world of today.
Disparities in wealth and class continue to be a thorn on the side of progress, and this event has not only allowed us to take a stand on the issue, but also improved our relationship with the rest of the world.
It is only through working together that we can eradicate the problems of inequality, be it through reducing poverty, fighting climate change, or rooting out the evils of terrorism.
The IPU assembly showed that the world is ready to work closely with Bangladesh -- and Bangladesh is ready to work with the world.
