Today is the holy day of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
It was on this day that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born into this world in the year 570. The date also marks his passing from the earthly realm.
Eid-e-Miladunnabi then, marked on our calendars as a public holiday, is a solemn occasion to reflect on the deep wisdom in the teachings of the Prophet (pbuh), and look to his life, which exemplified all the virtues for the true Muslim.
The extent to which Prophet Muhammad’s teachings changed the world is incalculable. A man of humble origins born in Makkah, he taught mankind the word of Allah, and united people in faith, brotherhood, peace, and prayer.
Islam today has 1.6 billion adherents worldwide.
As we move forward in a world full of strife, let us remember, with love and reverence, the true teachings of the Prophet (pbuh).
This is a day which calls for prayer. This is a day which calls for organised gatherings to discuss the birth, life, and message of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This is a day for feeding the poor.
There is a need, in this day and age, to reach out to non-Muslims and dispel any misconceptions about Islam.
Let us move beyond the endless policiticisation of religion and look inward.
We wish a meaningful and spiritually satisfying Eid-e-Miladunnabi for all.
