Recent trend reports suggest that this year, South Asian designers will be experimenting with a lot of flares and pleats and putting their own twists on major streetwear staples.
Prioritising comfort over anything else, here's how you can make the best of what's in store this season.
Customise
Team up a tightly belted shirt dress or a kameez with a pair of tulip pants. Make a jacket out of your old jamdani or khadi sari and throw it on your plain black tee. Fashion is what you make of it. Customise your wardrobe staples to your heart's content.
Minimal embellishments
We are gradually moving away from the intense, all-over embellishments on salwar-suits. Instead, we are keeping things minimal and chic with embellished cuffs, shoulders or hems.
Unless you're heading out for a wedding, there's no reason for you to be wearing a three-piece suit with all-over embroidery or gota patti work done. It's all about finding the right balance. If your kameez has a lot of heavy work on it, keep the pants and dupatta simple and sweet. Alternatively, you can pull off a gorgeous dupatta with a plain salwar-suit.

If it's a whimsically loose cape that you are sporting, the silhouette needs to be narrowed down at the bottom by putting it together with a sleek pair of fitted pants.

Speaking of pants, whether they're cigarette, tulip or flared, lace detailing on them will continue to be a trend this year. Make a few pairs in white, black, beige and neutral colours that can seal the deal when coupled up with almost anything and everything.
