The makeup artist sat down with Avenue t this wedding season, where she shared with us a few of her tips and secrets.
What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
It’s been almost four years since I started doing makeup professionally. And what inspired me was simply the fact that my sister Sahar and I have always been into fashion and makeup – we loved putting makeup on and trying out new products – although we were very young back then, we used to save our pocket money, get new products and try them on.
Over time, we started getting lots of compliments from our friends and family. And a lot of our friends would ask me to do their makeup, so that kind of gave me the motivation. Since we got so much of appreciation, I feel like that was the most important thing which made me decide that I want to start doing makeup professionally.
What’s trending this season:
- For eyes?
I personally feel like earthy tones look great on the eyes – I believe different shades of brown and a dark eye liner can complement any attire.
- For lips?
For the lips, definitely matte lipsticks are the rage this season. Nude is very much in, I think. Browns, berries and various shades of nude are all very popular this season. Since winter is on its way, I believe warm shades of lip colours will look great.
- For hair?
A traditional bun, with a middle parting is quite in, I suppose. The trend came in from Bollywood and most of the brides want to go with this chic hairstyle these days, rather than a more voluminous up-do.
How do you keep things simple for a minimalistic bride?
My preferred style is naturally glamorous. The skin must look flawless with features that are well-defined and sculpted, but the overall finish needs to look ultra natural. I believe that the foundation should be used in layers. It makes the skin have the coverage without looking ‘cakey’.
However, of all the beauty products out there, blush is one of the most effective at changing your whole look - it can make you look healthier, more dewy and youthful. So if a bride wants to be on the natural side, I will definitely add a lot of blush and highlighter but keep the eyes more neutral and soft, with golden and brown, so that it doesn’t look over the top. A light shade of lipstick will complement the whole look as well.

What do you love most about makeup?
- I believe makeup can instantly energize you, making you feel good about yourself no matter what the circumstances are.
Three makeup items every woman must have in her purse:
- Compact powder, lipstick and mascara.
The secret behind a glowy skin:
- Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated. A scheduled skin care routine that includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing almost regularly is also important.
What sets Amana Rahman’s Makeup Artistry apart?
- I believe it’s how I use the blush on my brides, and most of my clients really like it. I try to promote the natural look and more of the dolled up princess appearance rather than the dark, contoured face that is customary nowadays.
