SM Sultan’s birth anniv observed

The 93rd birth anniversary of renowned artist SM Sultan was observed in his home district Narail on Thursday amid various programmes.
The SM Sultan Foundation and the district administration jointly celebrated the occasion with an elaborate programme at Shishu Swarga auditorium.
The programme included Quran khwani, placing wreaths at the Sultan's grave, an art competition, discussion on Sultan's life and works and a prize giving ceremony for the art competition.
Narail Deputy Commissioner Md Emdadul Haque Chaudhury attended the programme as chief guest, while Local Government Department Deputy Director Md Siddiqur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioners Kamrul Arif and Md Mahbubur Rahman, Sultan Art College Principal Prof Ashok Kumar Sheel and Narail Zila Parishad member and freedom fighter Saifur Rahman Hilu were also in attendance, among others.
The legendary artist was born at Masumdia in Narail on August 10, 1924. He died in Jessore Combined Military Hospital on October 10, 1994.
Sultan won Ekushey Padak in 1982, Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993.
