Nagorik’s new play to bring subcontinental flavours on stage

Theatre troupe Nagorik Natya Sampradaya is about to bring its 44th production on stage. The play titled “Nam Gotrohin Mantor Meyera” will be staged on June 26 at the National Natyashala of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The cast of the play includes Sara Zaker, her daughter Sriya Sharbojoya and Aupee Karim in the lead roles. It is based on three novellas by Pakistani writer Saadat Hassan Manto and directed by Indian theatre activist Usha Ganguly.

In a press conference on June 23, Pantho Shahriar, the promotion and publication secretary of Nagorik Natya Sampradaya said: “The play will uphold the true flavour of the subcontinent. I believe it will emerge as a phenomena of cultural exchange between the countries.”

Usha Ganguly, director, actor and theatre activist adapted Manto’s “Kaali Shalwar,” “License” and “Hatak” for the unique production. The plot of the play revolves around three main characters Sultana, Sugondhi and Neeti. They have different stories to tell with one thing in common, the exploitation of women in society. 

Pantho Shahriar, Mostafiz Shahin, Razib Dey and others form the rest of the cast. With this production, Aupee returns to stage after a hiatus of four years.
