‘National Street Theatre Festival-2014’ begins

Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation on Saturday has begun its month-long National Street Theatre Festival-2014 with the slogan “Culture against Violence’ (Shohingshotar biroddahaya Shosongkriti).

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu inaugurated the program as Cheif guest while Group Theater Federation President Liakot Ali Laki presided over the inauguration ceremony at Central Shaheed Minar in the afternoon.

The month-long festival that was inaugurated with a view to commemorate the Language martyrs will be continuing till February 28 in seven divisional cities.

Among others, cultural activists and prominent artist Mamunur Rashid, poet Sayed Shamsul Haque and Bangladesh Group Federation Theatre’s General Secretary Jhuna Chowdhury were present in the ceremony.

Earlier, the inauguration program began with National Anthem and Ekashuer Gunand the organisation’s president Liakat Ali Laki read out the welcome note.

Speaking at the occasion, Inu upheld the significance of street drama in our socio-cultural context, saying “street theater plays a vital role to in progress of our country’s socio-cultural condition as it shows the real picture of any society, find out the inequality, injustice and the problems.”

The minister urged the countrymen as well as the theatre activists to be united against the evil forces for creating huge movement and show the baleful effect of the communal society through their performance.
