Universal Children's Day

In the past 4 years, the Jaago Foundation has celebrated Universal Children's Day (UCD) on 20th November by taking the street children to amusement parks and having the volunteers of the organisation taking the place of the unprivileged on the street corners. The volunteers of the foundation sold flowers, balloons, etc. and made the one day special for the unprivileged children.

In a press conference held yesterday by the Jaago Foundation at the Press Club VIP Lounge, Korvi Rakshand, Founder of the Jaago Foundation outlined the plan for this year's UCD. On November 22, volunteers of the foundation will take to the streets in 14 districts, whereas in Dhaka the day will be celebrated by taking the unprivileged and street children to the Banani Society field.

Korvi Rakshand said: “Every child has equal right to education irrespective of their race, religion, gender or financial standing. The JAAGO Foundation is devoted to providing education to the most underprivileged children in every part of the country using the skill, talent and passion of the youth.”

He urged the political parties to come to a solution for the greater good of the nation as the public are suffering and unable to carry on with scheduled events such as celebrating Universal Children's Day.

Akku Cowdhury, Managing Director, Transcom Foods Limited, said: “If 90% of the people were in education and understood their rights according to constitution, we would not have faced the current political crisis.”

Wasfia Nazreen, Managing Director, Bangladesh on 7 summits, said, “I would like to hope we can assure access to education for all children in Bangladesh. Let's take a pledge today, to spread happiness to not just our own children but also to the underprivileged children of Bangladesh, who are the real future of our nation”.

The Jaago Foundation, which started with only 17 children in 2007, providing them English based education, is at present providing free education to over 14,000 children.
