Bengal Lights is a literary journal founded two years ago at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). Three issues of the journal are out and it has started to make its mark not just in Bangladesh but among literary circles in the region.
Seeing the need for expansion of this enterprise and to promote quality writing from Bangladesh Bengal Lights set up the imprint of Bengal Lights Books in October 2013.
This publication arm will also serve the need for publishing quality translations of Bangla – and other languages too – into English, and therefore will work closely with the Translation Centre being set up under the aegis of ULAB.
Bengal Lights Books (BLB) will actively seek out and publish new voices and talents in fiction and in poetry, both original and in translation.
It will have partnerships with other such related enterprises abroad, beginning in the US and UK such as Ricochet and Phoneme that will not only help Bangladeshi writers, in Bangla or English, find a wider audience but also introduce lesser known but fascinating voices from abroad.
