New heartthrob of entertainment industry Jannatul Ferdous Peya, winner of Miss Bangladesh 2007, has drawn in audience with her attractive appearance in super hit film “Chorabali” released last year.
Apart from modelling, she made her acting debut with a Telefilm “To Be or Not to Be” by Partho Sarkar. She debuted as a film actress in 2012 through the movie “Chorabali” and achieved best actress award in the critics’ choice category in Meril Prothom Alo Award 2012. She is currently busy shooting for three new films, “The Story of Samara,” “Gangster Returns” and “Probashi’r Bhalobasha.”
She has been paired with celebrated actors in the films and hopes to establish good chemistry with them on screen. Recently Dhaka Tribune had the opportunity to catch up with the star:
As a new actor, what are the challenges you are facing?
Our film industry is still trying to reach a standard position. At this time, choosing acting beyond a super model is very risky. Though, I am from modeling world and each time I learn acting by my works. I always try to learn from others.
Are you planning to continue modelling as well?
Right now, in here models are not that professional and they don’t have unity. Obviously, I want to work but it should be my level. After winning “World Miss University” and “Indian Princess International,” I received many offers to work in Mumbai. As I am busy with shooting of my new films, I am not able to work over there.
What are you working on currently?
Recently I have signed two films, Ahmed Ali Mandal’s romantic Film “Probashir Prem” and Ashikur Rahman’s “Gangstar Returns.” At the same time, I have to work on one after another.
Tell us about your characters in the respective films.
In “The Story of Samara,” I am a researcher in a university. Aliens come and take me with them. They control my brain and that’s how the story reaches the climax. In “Probashir Prem,” I am account manager of a hotel in abroad. My lover works there as a waiter and he gets admitted in hospital. For his treatment, I played a love game with the owner of that hotel and try to save my lover’s life.
What kind of roles do you enjoy playing in films?
Well, I love challenges and diversity in my characters. Also films with unconventional story lines holds a great deal of appeal for me. I want to captivate my audience by presenting them with different roles all the time. Even, I don’t want to be paired up with the same actor again and again for avoiding redundancy in chemistry, I love different dimensions in each and every role I play.
Tell us about your dream role?
I would love to play any lead character from the literatures of Tagore.
Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
I will try my level best to be a successful artiste in the industry, not an actor. I want to be a politician in future to serve our society, our country.
She was eventually crowned Miss Bangladesh in 2007. She won World Miss University in South Korea in 2011, when she was studying in LCLS (London College of Legal Studies).
