Layeqa Bashir brings her debut album Adho Shur Adhu Shura

Layeqa Bashir has been singing from the delicate age of five. She started practicing Nazrul Geeti from 1996 and had further training from Chhayanaut Sangskriti Bhaban. The multi-talented persona’s debut album released Thursday at the Chhayanaut Sangskritik Bhaban.

Dhaka tribune caught up with the aspiring singer:

Tell us about the album:

My album is titled “Adho Shur Adho Shura” features Nazrul Geeti and is produced by G-series. The audience will get Nazrul songs of different tastes and various moods in the album. I hope Nazrul lovers would appreciate it.

How many songs are there in the album?

The album brings a total of ten songs based on raga, ghazal, seasonal, bhajan, shyama and many more.

What does the title refer to?

The title has been inspired from the song “Adho Alo, Adho Adhar.” The album’s title refers to my thirst for perfection of tune (Shur). Here, I interpret Shura ( liquor) as thirst.

Why did you choose to be a practitioner of Nazrul Geeti?

I have been practicing classical music from my childhood and I found Nazrut Geeti has the profound beauty of the genre.

Tell us about your career plan?

Besides music, I am a lecturer at a private university and also a musical trainer at Chhayanaut. But I am very passionate about music. If possible, I would take music as a full time profession.
