Noted playwright Atiqul Haque Chowdhury passed away at a city hospital on Monday night. He was 82. He breathed his last at Samarita Hospital around 10pm, sources at the hospital said.
He is survived by wife, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death, reports UNB.
Atiqul Haque’s body will be kept in front of Ekushey Television (ETV) at 10am on Tuesday enabling its staff to show their last respect to him. Later, his body will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar where it will lay in state from 11:30am to 12:30pm so that people from all walks of life can show their last respect to the author.
His first namaj-e-janaza will be held at Dhaka University central mosque after Zohr prayers. Before burial at Mirpur Intellectual Graveyard in the afternoon, his body will be kept at Bangladesh Television Bhaban, Rampura at 2:30pm.
Born on December 15, 1931 in Bhola, Atiqul Haque began his career as a producer and programme organiser at Radio Pakistan Dhaka in 1960 and later joined PTV Dhaka in 1965.
Atiqul Haque Chowdhury had been one of the country’s leading personalities actively involved in BTV in its golden era from late 1970s to late 1980s. During his tenure, he made over 450 TV plays and wrote and directed a number of quality radio plays.
