Fasting and the Furious

It’s finally here, month many look forward to for the sole purpose of losing weight. Since the moon has decided that Ramadan will start ten days earlier every year, school students have the unfortunate privilege of having to attend classes or take exams during this holy month.

Instead of talking about “after Iftar delights,” let’s discuss before-Iftar-delights as innocently as we can. School-goers are greeted by earlier dismissals, yay! However that happiness may just be overshadowed by cranky attitudes after having slept at a time close to dawn (just Sehri things).

Adjusting to skipping breakfast and tiffin breaks is definitely a challenge especially in the current Dhaka heat when water can’t even be your savior. Although, sources have confessed that having everyone around them playing the ‘hunger games’ as well, somehow makes it easier to remain a tribute.

Most would like to spend their time sleeping just to bear the droning hours of empty stomachs, but how can the unlucky exam-takers calm their nerves? Stress eating is probably the best reliever but sadly, Ramadan steers us in a different direction. Adding on to the pressure, the lack of food or water can cause light-headedness and thus 100% concentration is close to impossible!

Although the hours seem longer, it’s just the hunger creating an illusion. But before you know it, Iftar time rolls by and you stuff your face as much as you can – the time of day that makes you happiest.
