Toffee apologizes as World Cup livestream faces repeated interruptions

Digital streaming platform Toffee has apologized after users experienced repeated interruptions during the live broadcast of World Cup matches, leaving football fans frustrated across the country.

In a statement, Toffee said it is working with Bangladesh Television (BTV), the official broadcast rights holder, to resolve the technical issues as quickly as possible. It also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that further updates would be provided soon.

The disruption affected live sports coverage at a time when demand for uninterrupted streaming is high, particularly among users who rely on mobile platforms for live football viewing.

Launched in November 2019, Toffee operates as a live TV and sports streaming application as well as a content distribution platform across mobile devices and smart TVs in Bangladesh.

Over the years, it has positioned itself as a key digital destination for live sports, entertainment and creator content in the country’s growing over-the-top (OTT) market.

The latest interruptions, however, sparked criticism on social media, with many users expressing disappointment over the inconsistent viewing experience during high-profile matches.

Some viewers also argued that if such technical failures continue, affected subscribers should be compensated or offered refunds for services they were unable to access.

The incident highlights growing pressure on digital broadcasters in Bangladesh to maintain reliable infrastructure as live sports consumption increasingly shifts from traditional television to online platforms.
