With Google’s new release of Android 15 Beta 2.2 on June 3, Techies around the world are talking about the new features it comes with.
Android 15 has already reached platform stability. The final version will be released with the launching of Google’s upcoming flagship Pixel 9. Here are the most exciting new features:
Bluetooth audio sharing
Now, android users can share their phone’s audio with nearby Bluetooth headsets. More than one device using Bluetooth LE technology can hear the same audio broadcasted from a smartphone. The feature can be found from Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences then the Audio Sharing option. Previously only special apps like “Spotify” had a feature to share audio.
Adaptive vibration
Now android devices can increase or decrease the intensity of vibration depending on the environment. The smartphone will use data from the microphone and other sensors to determine the loudness of the current environment and adjust vibration intensity. The feature will reduce the chances of awkward vibration in a meeting or missed calls during a loud part of the day.
There is also a new universal vibration control added to the upcoming version.
Partial screen record
Now, users will have a chance to record screen videos of a specific app. After turning the feature on, users can switch applications and it will not be recorded on the screen. Previously users had to edit out the video if they switched to another app in the middle of screen recording.
High-quality webcam mode
Previously, users could use their phone as a webcam on a PC only by using a third-party app. Now, an integrated feature of webcam called high-quality webcam mode is rolled out for Google Pixel users.
This app can also use different cameras from a multi-camera phone.
Using Google account photo as the avatar
Since the introduction of “Profiles” on Android, almost all the users wanted to use their Google account profile photo as their avatar. Despite that, the only way till now was to reuse the photo by manually adding it from your phone. This simple integration is now available on the next version of Android.
Besides these major updates, there are multiple minor updates added to Android 15. The volume panel is all new and collapsable. The expanded toggle has the option to control the volume of media, calls, rings, notifications, and alarms. Users can now also preview the widget live before placing it. An option to turn Bluetooth on automatically is also added. Security features like updated privacy sandbox, file integrity and contact encryption are now available.
Android also used software tweaks to make the battery life longer by optimization. Android also limited the maximum framerate of games to 60hz before.
Now using “disable default frame rate for games” settings users can unleash the full power of the smartphone's hardware. Android also added support for 16kb page size which improves performance for memory-intensive workloads.
Supported devices will also receive an updated Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF). The new ADPF will also save power and predict the required thermal headroom to increase performance. Android will also support MIDI 2.0 devices via USB which can be used on composition apps to control synthesizers.
Alongside Google’s own Pixel, partners like Oneplus, Nothing, Xiaomi and more are now receiving the beta of Android 15. As Google stayed away from naming its versions with desserts from Android 10, google still uses dessert codenames internally. The codename of this version is Vanilla Ice Cream.
