Xiaomi launched their Redmi 10 smartphone back in August of 2021. However, like many of their devices before, they brought it back with a new 2022 edition at an attractive and aggressive price.
The 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant of the phone is available at Tk14,999 and the 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM variant is available at Tk16,999 in Bangladesh right now.
Now, does the phone stack up?
Aesthetics
The Redmi 10 2022 edition looks pretty standard for a phone at this price point. It has a full display at the front with a punch-hole camera on the top. The fingerprint sensor is located on the right side of the phone.
One thing that makes it unique though is the fact that it comes with a dual stereo speaker setup. On the other hand, the weird part of the whole design is the placement of the 3.5mm headphone jack on top, instead of the bottom.
The phone is officially available in three colours, namely Carbon Gray, Pebble White and Sea Blue. You will most likely end up having the options of Carbon Gray and Pebble White.
Performance
Redmi 10 2022 has an octa-core Helio G88 chipset and Mali-G52 MC2 GPU inside. For this budget range, Helio G88 is a pretty decent chipset.
If we want to compare it with other smartphones in a closer price range, the Samsung Galaxy A12, costs Tk1,000 less, has an octa-core Helio G35 chipset. Needless to say, G88 is far better than G35.
However, Oppo did something clever here. With a price tag of Tk19,990, which is Tk3,000 more than Redmi 10 2022, Oppo came up with a phone that has Snapdragon’s latest 680 chipsets. It should perform better than both G88 and G35.
Taking a look at Redmi 10 2022, the smartphone provides pretty decent performance. However, some lags were visible while scrolling through the user interface, especially while placing phone calls. It felt like MiUi in the Redmi 10 2022 needs some more finetuning.
Display
The phone has a 6.5 inches LCD panel with a 90Hz display refresh rate. The supported display resolution is 1080x2400 pixels with a 20:9 ratio.
Xiaomi did a really nice thing here by introducing AdaptiveSync in a phone of this price point. AdaptiveSync automatically adjusts display refresh rate based on the content to save battery life.
It is supposed to keep a 45Hz refresh rate while regular usage, 60Hz while playing videos and 90Hz while playing games. Although I doubt there are many games that will support a 90Hz refresh rate with the Helio G88 chipset. Still, keeping the price the same, I don’t think putting a higher quality chipset was an option for Xiaomi here.
The Redmi 10 2022 also has Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
Camera
The Redmi 10 2022 really shines when it comes to its quad-camera setup. The phone has a 50 MP wide lens as its primary sensor along with an 8 MP 120 degree ultrawide sensor, one 2MP macro sensor and another 2MP depth sensor.
Compared to Redmi 10, Oppo A76 only has two sensors. One 13MP wide and another 2MP depth.
Samsung Galaxy A12 has a similar camera setup. But it drops on the ultrawide lens by providing a 5MP instead of an 8MP sensor.
All three smartphones have 8MP selfie cameras on the front.
Battery
Redmi 10 2022 has a 5,000 mAh battery with 18 Watts fast charging support. It also supports 9 Watts reverse charging.
Both Oppo and Samsung also come with 5000 mAh batteries. But their charging speeds vary. Oppo provides a 33 Watts fast charging while Samsung’s charging speed is 15 Watts.
Oppo does perform better in the battery segment with its 33 Watts charging capability since it will take less time to charge the batteries.
Final verdict
It all really comes down to what users want.
If you want a smartphone with a decent camera, performance and battery life within Tk17,000 price point, Redmi 10 2022 will be an ideal choice for you.
