Blissful Spirits, a youth organisation that works with children with autism, organised a day of art-therapy on Saturday at Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID).
Around 30 volunteers participated in the day-long event, where they worked with children at SWID’s Lalmatia venue.
This was part of the Blissful Spirit’s “Make a Change” campaign, that aims to raise awareness on intellectual disability through public events of art therapy and panel talks.
“It is a small effort with a lasting impact which will hopefully make people understand that intellectually disabled kids are not different from us,” says Arnab Banik, one of the founders of Blissful Spirits. “We believe that every child has a unique talent.”
Thus they hosted Saturday’s event, which was one of a seven-day awareness-raising programme hosted by Blissful Spirits. They will have a similar event on Wednesday at Autism Welfare Foundation, scheduled from 9am to 12:30pm.
These pieces of artwork will then be exhibited at SWID and Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled.
Registration Fee for Fundraising Campaign & A Day with Blissful Children: BDT 150/- only.
Volunteers can also participate in the Blissful Conference on Intellectual Disability, which will take place at Daffodil University on Thursday, and include a panel talk from members of the press, NGOs and other stakeholders who work on this issue.
