Most students aspire to be a doctor or an engineer in the beginning of their studies. We hope that students will aspire to become entrepreneurs from now, said president of DCCI and chairman of DCCI Business Institute Md Sabur Khan in a roundtable discussion in the DCCI auditorium on Saturday.
The roundtable discussion was organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) to talk about two proposed degree programmes of DCCI. The proposed programmess are Bachelor of Entrepreneurship Development (BED) and BBA major in Business Leadership. DCCI will launch the programmes jointly with a university.
“Aim in life should be thought about in a different way. I will be an entrepreneur and will do something innovative should be the mindset”, said Md Sabur Khan while he was giving his welcome speech in the discussion.
Nurul Islam Nahid, minister of the education ministry was the chief guest while Professor Dr Atful Hye Shibly, member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) was the special guest.
Nurul Islam Nahid said: “We want our people to be skilled to work in our companies”. He also said, foreign people, working in Bangladesh, are earning billions of dollars from Bangladesh. Businessmen and other wealthy persons must come forward for the betterment of the education sector. He informed Cross Border Higher Education (CBHE) is on its way to help students. He further said: “There should not be any partisan principle in education sector. We are on the way to a national educational principle”. He also welcomed criticism if anyone observes poor performance by the ministry. He said: “Constructive criticism can help a lot for the success of a task”.
Professor Dr Atful Hye Shibly emphasised on quality education. While talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean of the Department of Business and Administration of Daffodil International University said, “It is a general idea that an entrepreneur does not require a professional degree to be an entrepreneur, and people have also succeeded without relevant education. Definitely, it is high time to look at entrepreneurship in a different way. I hope these programmes will help the future entrepreneurs to learn entrepreneurship in a better way”. He also said, the students will find the profession easier as there are scopes to meet the leaders of the global market.
Although the programmes are costly but the experts opined that these programmes will help the upcoming entrepreneurs a lot. Others suggested to open programmes like project management and other business related courses or programmes.
Among the speakers there were teachers of different universities, former president of DCCI, educationalists and entrepreneurs of many business organisations.
