Where to find camel milk tea in Dhaka

Every morning when you wake up, you are used to the sweet aroma of tea pervading the air. In a Bengali household, the one thing that often sits on the stove in the morning is a saucepan or a kettle filled to the brim with breakfast tea. With most of us being regular tea drinkers, starting the day off without a cup would infiltrate our bones with the feeling of fatigue and irritability.

We are all accustomed to several types of tea. Those being plain old black tea, milk tea, jasmine tea or green tea. Oftentimes the black or milk tea is also infused with ginger and cardamom, which is known as masala tea. But have you ever heard of camel milk tea?

That’s right, camel milk tea is now available in Dhaka and you no longer need to fly a few thousand miles to Saudi in order to acquire it. It can be found at the restaurant “Bachelor Express” located on road no 52 in Gulshan.

The restaurant is run by two friends, Aminul Islam and Mahbub Hasan. It usually remains open from 11am to 4am every day.

As frequent travellers to the countries in the Middle East, both have always savored the specific dishes of those countries and especially this culturally important beverage of the Arabs. From there, they adopted the idea of setting up a business venture and opened the cafe. Naturally, they included this Arab delicacy on the menu.

What is the price?

Although they serve all types of tea in the cafe, camel milk tea has become quite popular and is sold the most.

Each cup is sold at Tk400. According to the owners, the camel milk powder is imported from foreign countries and costs around Tk20,000 per kg.

Therefore, in order to preserve the quality and due to the high price of the milk powder in general, the tea is relatively very expensive.

Is it worth it?

Unlike other kinds of milk, camel milk has low levels of sugar and cholesterol but high amounts of vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium etc.

It is a healthier alternative for folks who are lactose intolerant and it boosts immunity.

While camel milk has a lot of nutritional benefits, whether it is actually worth the price or not is for you to decide. But if you are someone who enjoys drinking tea then you must try this at the Bachelor Express at least once.
