Former caretaker govt adviser Rokia Afzal Rahman passes away

Prominent business person Rokia Afzal Rahman, also an adviser of the former caretaker government of Bangladesh in 2011, passed away on Wednesday. 

She was 82.

Rokia passed away in her sleep at 2:00am Singapore local time at the Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, according to his family. 

Her body would be brought back to Dhaka on Friday.

Country's prominent entrepreneur Rokia was also the chairperson of Mediaworld Ltd, the owning company of The Daily Star.

She left behind three children -- two daughters and a son -- and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.

Rokia was also director shareholder of Mediastar, and a shareholder director of ABC Radio.

She was founding president of the Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB).

Rokia Rahman was the founder Chairperson of Presidency University. She was a Board member in several organizations involved in development such as BRAC, MIDAS, Manusher Jonno, BFF, MRDI, Smiling Sun, Health21.

She has worked for the development of women Entrepreneurs for the last 20 years, working all over Bangladesh. She was president of Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs - BFWE.

She has received several International and National awards as a successful business person.
