Dua mahfil for ex-finance minister Muhith held in Dhaka

A dua mahfil for the salvation of the departed soul of former finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was held at Gulshan’s Azad mosque in Dhaka on Saturday.

The dua mahfil was held after the Asr prayers.

Cabinet members, parliament members, relatives, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers of the departed attended the dua mahfil.

M Syeduzzaman, former finance and planning minister, M Mokammel Haque, former secretary, Muhith’s younger brother Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Planning Minister Abdul Mannan, and others spoke in honour of the departed soul.

Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was a language movement veteran and valiant freedom fighter. He was elected member of Parliament from the Sylhet-1 constituency.

He, as the finance minister of Awami League government, presented the budget in parliament for 10 years at a stretch.

It was during his tenure that the size of the budget expanded.

Muhith passed away in the wee hours of April 30 in Dhaka, after a prolonged illness at the age of 88. 

Muhith passed away soon after midnight on April 30 in Dhaka. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Rainagar in Sylhet.

He left behind his wife Sabia Muhith, daughter Samina, sons Shahed and Samir, and many family members, friends, and well-wishers.
