Former caretaker government adviser and former inspector general of police ASM Shahjahan passed away in the early hours on Wednesday.
He was 78.
According to family members, he passed away around 12am, while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka.
Shahjahan’s daughter Dr Uzma Sayid said that her father was admitted to the hospital on January 26, as he had been suffering from Parkinson's disease.
Shahjahan will be laid to rest in the Banani graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza tomorrow.
Shahjahan was born in 1941 in the Begumganj upazila in Noakhali. He joined the police forces in 1966 as an assistant superintendent of police. Later, he served as the secretary of the government from 1996 until his retirement in 1999.
In the eighth parliamentary election held in 2001, under the supervision of the caretaker government, ASM Shahjahan served as the advisor to education, science and information technology.
