Eminent Pakistani fiction writer and journalist Md Hanif sat with Dhaka Tribune Editor Zafar Sobhan, for an in-depth conversation that will be aired on Ekattor TV at 10:20am, Friday.
The exclusive interview was recorded for Zafar Sobhan’s new talk show, “Straight Talk,” during the Pakistani writer’s recent visit to Bangladesh. He was one of the celebrities attending the recently concluded Dhaka Lit Fest.
Md Hanif graduated from the Pakistan Air Force Academy as a pilot officer but subsequently left to pursue a career in journalism. His first novel, “A Case of Exploding Mangoes,” was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, and won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Novel.
Hanif's second novel, “Our Lady of Alice Bhatti,” was shortlisted for the 2012 Wellcome Prize. He has written the libretto for a new opera, “Bhutto.”
He writes regularly for the New York Times, BBC Urdu, and BBC Punjabi. He currently splits his time between Berlin and Karachi.
This will be the third episode of “Straight Talk.” In the first two episodes, Afsan Chowdhury, eminent Bangladeshi journalist, and Dr Gowher Rizvi, adviser to the Bangladesh prime minister on international affairs, were interviewed respectively.
