A meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday asked the authorities concerned to immediately bring those responsible for the road accidents during the Eid-ul-Azha vacations to book.
The directives came from the first meeting of the high-level committee formed recently to monitor implementation of all activities to ensure safe roads and overall development of the traffic system, reports UNB.
PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan presided over the meeting, according to a press release.
Road accidents occurred before and after the Eid and the overall transport management issues came up for elaborate discussion at the meeting.
The committee asked all authorities concerned to take effective steps to strengthen the ongoing activities to ensure safe roads across the country, including Dhaka.
It directed the authorities concerned to step up mobile courts so that the traffic laws are followed and vehicles without route-permit cannot ply the streets.
It also asked the authorities to take measures to bring all roads and highways across the country under a CCTV camera network with the help of the local administration and local government bodies.
The committee stressed the need to conduct public awareness programs so that the people follow the traffic laws.
It also prayed for salvation of the departed souls of those who were killed in the road accidents during the Eid holidays and expressed sympathy to their bereaved family members.
It also wished quick recovery of the injured.
