PM, president mourn opposition chief whip Tajul

Tajul Islam Chowdhury, chief whip of the opposition in parliament and Jatiya Party presidium member died in a city hospital on Monday night. He was 73.

A Jatiya Party press release said he breathed his last at United Hospital in the city around 11:45pm. He had been suffering from kidney and heart-related complications, reports UNB.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday paid rich tributes Tajul, placing wreaths at his coffin at the South Plaza of Parliament Complex.

The prime minister placed a wreath and stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the MP from Kurigram 2 constituency. Then, flanked by senior leaders and MPs of her party, Hasina, also the Awami League president, laid another wreath on behalf of the party.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Raushon Ershad also paid homage to Tajul.A wreath was also placed on behalf of President Abdul Hamid.

Earlier, a namaz-e-janaza of Tajul was held at the South Plaza after Asr prayers.

Tajul’s second Namaz-E-Janaja will be held at family graveyard in Kurigram district today.
