Bangladesh Television actors’ organization Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho’s President Shahidul Alam Sachchu requested their members to behave responsibly. He also requested them to stay vigilant and stay away from spreading unauthenticated rumours or news.
The organization sent these instructions to their members on August 5. The instructions also stated that Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho is a non-political professional organization.
Sacchu said in a statement: “We have already thanked our prime minister for meeting all the demands made by the student protesters. Also a huge bunch of our actors personally have already joined and supported the ongoing protests at different parts of the city.”
These instructions came after the arrest of actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed. On Saturday afternoon, she went live on Facebook and claimed that two students had been killed and another blinded during clashes between students and police and reportedly activists of ruling party affiliate organizations.
Her claims were not backed by proof; this created controversy and spread panic among students and on social media.
Later, she admitted that she did not witness the incidents and had received the information from a friend.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday night arrested Nawshaba from the capital’s Uttara.
A Dhaka court has placed actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed on a four-day remand in police custody in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on Sunday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazharul Haque passed the order on Sunday after Uttara Police Station Sub-Inspector Bikash Chandra Paul, also the case investigation officer, produced her before the court.
