The Argentinean petition for a Argentina vs Bangladesh match

Every four years, the craze among football fans in Bangladesh is a spectacle to behold. The frenzy over Brazil and Argentina over the decades has left little to add to the subject.

This year, the Argentine media has once again taken note of diehard Bangladeshi fans.

Hundreds of demonstrations by Bangladeshi fans of the Argentina football team have been noticed by the international media.

Touched by the affection shown by the Bangladeshis, an Argentine has launched an online petition on change.org to gather signatures for the national team to play a friendly match with Bangladesh on their home turf after the World Cup, reports La Nacion.

The petition was initiated on Wednesday by Matías dell'Anno Irigoyen, and is addressed to Argentine Football Association (AFA) President Claudio Chiqui Tapia and Lionel Messi.

"The demonstrations of affection for the Argentina team in Bangladesh are incredible and the happiness shown by the videos and photos you see is very great. One way to thank them for their support is to play a friendly match in Dhaka," the petition says.

The Bangladeshi love for Argentina is rooted in June 22, 1986, the day when Diego Armando Maradona scored two memorable goals against England in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

Back in 2011, Argentina played against Nigeria in Bangladesh in front of a crowd of around 20,000.

Bangladeshis are notoriously patriotic. It would be quite tenuous to see who they would root for in a football match between Argentina and Bangladesh.
