Guests on Wednesday discussed the life and legacy left behind by Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin, former managing director of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
The Capital Market Journalists’ Forum (CMJF) and Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB) organized a webinar to pay tribute to him.
Maroof passed away on September 20 after being infected with the Covid-19 disease. He was 58.
He was also a founding director of VCPEAB and managing director of Maslin Capital.
During the webinar, the guests mourned his untimely demise and his contributions towards policy advocacy related to venture capital, startups and the capital market.
They also said that Maroof Matin was a brilliant person, who worked in the stock exchanges, as well as got involved with mutual funds and venture capital.
Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, former BSEC chaiman Ziaul Haque Khandakar, VCPEAB president Shameem Ahsan, CMJF president Hasan Imam Rubel, wife of Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin Nazma Akter, CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director of IDLC Ltd Arif Khan, General Secretary of CMJF Munir Hossain and chairman of Maslin Capital limited Abdul Hafiz, attended the event.
Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said that Maroof Matin had unfaltering dedication and enthusiasm towards innovation, and continuously generated new ideas.
VCPEAB president Shameem Ahsan said that Maroof Matin had a profound effect on shaping the venture capital, startup and capital market community.
He was an industry stalwart and always provided critical insights to encourage the country's quest to create a robust venture capital and startup ecosystem, he added.
Former BSEC chairman Ziaul Haque Khandakar said that Maroof was always full of productive ideas and was a creative genius.
"Maroof Matin played a very important role to develop our stock market and his immense contribution will be remembered by everyone, he was a real friend of the capital market," said Hasan Imam Rubel, president of CMJF.
