Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday decided to resume stock trading from May 10.
The decision was taken at a virtual board meeting of the DSE which required approval from the securities regulator, a DSE director told Dhaka Tribune.
The meeting, however, decided to observe the corona- related development before the planned trade resumption on May 10.
Earlier, the bourse on April 23 extended their ongoing closure till May 5, in accordance with the extended public holidays declared by the government to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country and encourage people to be at home and maintain social distancing.
DSE director Minhaz Mannan Emon told Dhaka Tribune that if the Coronavirus situation was not normal, the stock trading activities in the capital market would not start from May 10.
The decision would come into effect subject to an approval from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), he added.
"The main income source of investors is the stock market. The market has been closed since March 26 due to coronavirus. As a result, brokerage houses and small investors have been badly affected" he said.
