Md Eunusur Rahman, former senior secretary to the finance ministry’s bank and financial institutions division, has been elected as the new chairman of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for a three-year term.
He was elected during a meeting of the board of directors of the prime bourse on Monday.
According to DSE sources, the chairman was elected from among independent directors under the demutualization law.
Earlier on February 8, outgoing DSE chairman Dr Abul Hashem, independent director Siddiqur Rahman Mia, Monoyara Hakim Ali, Waliul Islam, Dr M Kayakobad and Professor Dr Masudur Rahman went on retirement.
On February 18, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) approved the appointments of six new independent directors for DSE for a three-year term.
The DSE’s new independent directors are former senior secretary Eunusur Rahman, former Bangladesh Bank executive director Habibullah Bahar, former additional secretary Salma Nasreen, FBCCI senior vice-president Muntakim Ashraf, BUET industrial and production engineering department professor AKM Masud and DSE’ incumbent independent director Masudur Rahman.
As per the demutualization scheme 2013, the bourse has 13 members — seven independent directors, four shareholder directors, one strategic investor and the managing director.
