'No scope of whitening money in next budget'

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said there will be no chance for converting black money into white in the next budget.

The minister made the statement while addressing the 35th advisory committee meeting of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in the capital's Hotel Sonargaon on Thursday morning.

Muhith said: “There will be no more chance for whitening black money in the 2014-15 budget.”

Between fiscal 1971-72 and fiscal 2012-13, some Tk13,808 crore was whitened. NBR received taxes of Tk1,455 crore during the period, which is just around 1% of this year's tax collection target.

Recalling the contributions of revenue to the country’s gross national income (GNI), Muhith said the contribution of revenue to the GNI has increased by 3% in the last five years.
