Migration, remittance down this year

The migration of workers abroad has decreased this year in comparison with the previous year, a RAMRU study says on Saturday.

The study of Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit also found the aggregate remittance inflow showing the same downgrading trajectory.

Tasnim Siddique, adviser to the organisation, presented the findings at a programme in the National Press Club in the afternoon.

At the function, RAMRU President Shahdin Malik was also present.

According to the study, the number of migrant workers from the country was 6 lakh 7 thousand last year, which decreased to 4 lakh this year.

At the same time, the injection of the remittance has fallen by $13.47bn in the current year from a $14.17bn in the previous year.
