JS passes budget for 2013-14 amid opposition walkout

Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday unanimously passed the Appropriation Bill 2013, awarding the government the authority to spend up to Tk3.44bn from the Consolidated Fund during the 2013-14 fiscal year, starting tomorrow, to meet its development and non-development expenditures.

Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith placed the bill before JS on Saturday for approval.

JS passed the Finance Bill 2013 on the same day, with some changes brought to the original budget proposition by Muhith placed before the House on June 6.

With the passage of both appropriation and finance bills, the national budget of Tk2.22tn for the 2013-14 fiscal year was given the final approval of the JS.

Opposition lawmakers, who were present at parliament for the first time in four years during the budget session, staged a walk out when the bill was being passed.
