A total of 80% of public procurement tenders will be covered by the e-Government Procurement (e-GP) system as the government has adopted the project, “Digitising Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement.”
Finance Minister AMA Muhith made this announcement while delivering his budget speech at the parliament on Thursday.
This project will help to expand e-GP and increase the capacity of public procurement management.
Under the project, adopted in collaboration with the World Bank, the e-GP system will be expanded to 23 large government organisations.
The finance minister said information technology not only makes our lives easier but also creates many opportunities to facilitate economic growth.
With this realisation, the government has pledged in its election manifesto to transform the country into “Digital Bangladesh.”
Muhith said: “With the expansion of ICT in private sector, we are encouraging automation and e-GP processes in different areas of the public sector as well.”
“Innovative ideas are being implemented in government offices to deliver various services through ICT,” he added.
