The government has made no plans in the budget for the fiscal year 2020-2021 for the relocation or rehabilitation of the displaced Rohingya nationals now sheltering in Bangladesh.
While delivering his budget speech, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday said Bangladesh had become a global role model as a humanitarian support provider by making available facilities, including safe shelter, food and healthcare service, to 1,100,000 Rohingya refugees forcibly dislodged from their homes in Myanmar.
The minister reiterated that Bangladesh would maintain this gesture of humanitarian response in the coming fiscal year too.
However, the budget speech did not elaborate further on what the gesture would be.
In the budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year, the government had allocated a special fund of Tk400 crore for Rohingya rehabilitation, mainly for building shelters. But no such fund has been allocated in the budget for FY2020-21.
