Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed an imposition of VAT on marriage media in his budget speech for 2019-20 fiscal year.
The budget speech also proposed to impose VAT on entertainment programs, serials, dramas, telefilms, etc to be broadcast on television channels and online media, like YouTube and Facebook.
In addition, the budget document also proposed a VATimposition on products such as plastic and aluminium items, soybean oil, palm oil, sunflower oil, mustard oil, etc which have been enjoying the exemption benefit for a long time.
Import of telecom equipment has also been proposed to have VAT imposed.
Proposed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, this is the biggest-ever national budget in Bangladesh's history, amounting to a whopping Tk523,190 crore.
