Teletalk staff on indefinite strike demanding salary hike

They called upon the government to fulfill their demand of “raising the basic salary by 100%”. They have been demanding the hike since July 2015. “All the employees working across the country have gone on strike and will continue to do so until the demands are met,” Md Kamruzzaman, secretary general of Teletalk Employee Welfare Association told the Dhaka Tribune. Several hundreds of Teletalk employees staged the sit-in strike in front of their head office in Gulshan in Dhaka since morning. They wrapped up the strike for today at 5:00pm, but they will continue it from next morning until the demand is met. “Despite being a state-owned entity, we do not get the facilities that other government officials enjoy. We have been demanding 100% hike of our basic salaries for a long time. The authorities have only started to pay us 15%-20% hike since September. But we want a 100% hike on our salaries,” he added. The Dhaka Tribune several time attempted to contact Teletalk Managing Director Gias Uddin Ahmed on this matter. However he has not yet answered the call.
