Online sales boom ahead of Eid

Online sales of products doubled ahead of this Eid festival than the previous Eid and other festivals as it is booming in the country thanks to traffic jams, political unrest and flourishing online accessibility.   People who are outside the country prefer buying online for sending gifts to their friends and relatives by using credit cards, which also helps to increase the market, traders said.    At the same time, some traders also running their company from abroad to give a boost to the business. Normally, per day sales were not less than Tk1m, and now ahead of Eid they increased five to ten times, businessmen attached with this infant industry told the Dhaka Tribune.    Shameem Ahsan, Chief Executive Officer of the country's top listed e-commerce site akhoni.com said: "Eid is an opportunity for us and we want do our best to help the online trading in the country flourish." He said if online traders could ensure their services, he believed these types of business would lead the market in the next few years.   The akhoni.com is offering 30% discount on different products, and at the same time, they are offering Tk50 discount on shopping order of Tk500 each.   Branded and non-branded products are now available there at their online shops. Local banks have relaxed rules for issuing credit and debit cards, while expanding mobile banking services also contributed to the increase in online shopping; and Eid time gave it a tremendous boost, business owners said.   While visiting some online shops, it was found that traders also decorated their shops like the regular shops and displayed products suitable for the festival.   Some online shops like MarketA2Z.com launched just before Eid to take advantage of the festival business. "We started our journey just two weeks ago, and now mainly different types of dresses are selling using our platform before Eid," Shahinul Islam, marketing manager of MarketA2Z.com, the new platform for buying and selling products, told the Dhaka Tribune on the phone.   MarketA2Z.com also served their website rental information too. People can post free advertisements on it, Shahinul added.  Bikroy.com is now very popular in the country for the online buying and selling products in the country.   But this shop is running from outside the country. When contacted, Bangladesh marketing manager Eshita Sharmine declined to make any comment, but sources said the online shop spent a huge amount of money on its marketing and has grabbed most of the market share of the country's total online purchases.  Bangladesh Brands, another leading online shopping center in the country, running their business with local 54 brands and more than 31,000 products, authorities said.   Sadek Hasan of Bangladesh Brands said they could deliver not only inside the country, but also anywhere on the globe within five days. Before Eid, their orders have increased substantially, he said.
