The elected representatives of Grameen Bank governing body yesterday deplored the government decision to change its governing body election system.
A statement issued by Grameen Bank Director Tahasina Khatoon alleged that the government had a motive to “destroy” the bank by giving the election a political shape.
According to a circular issued by the government earlier this month, a three-member committee appointed by the Bangladesh Bank will oversee the election of nine borrower-directors from the grassroots. The remaining three members including its chairman will be picked up by the government.
Tahsina said the old system had ensured a fair election through the election of representatives at different levels.
