BB: No Bangladeshi bank website has been hacked

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arief Hossain Khan has stated that no bank website has been hacked. He also mentioned that there is currently no risk in digital transactions.

The central bank spokesperson shared this information with journalists on Sunday.

He noted that the banks keeping their websites down will resume operations soon after ensuring security.

The Bangladesh Bank website, which was temporarily shut down to avoid cyberattack risks, has now been restored. The central bank's website had been down since last Thursday.

Reopening the website starting Sunday at 8:00 AM, the central bank explained that since Sunday is a working day, the site was brought back online to facilitate round-the-clock monitoring.

Following the detection of two critical security flaws in PHP—a widely used programming language worldwide—the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and relevant agencies issued warnings regarding cyberattack risks.

In a joint advisory published on October 21, the agencies stated that attackers could exploit these security vulnerabilities to execute malicious code on affected servers.

They advised temporarily disconnecting vulnerable web applications from the internet if security updates could not be applied promptly.

Taibur Rahman, director general of the National Cyber Security Agency, stated that disaster was averted thanks to proactive precautionary measures taken regarding the PHP programming language security vulnerability.

He added that the websites of banks and other institutions are being gradually restored while ensuring 100% security.
