In light of the alarming surge in dengue cases across the country, including Dhaka, in recent times, Bangladesh Bank has issued special instructions to safeguard bank officers, employees, and customers.
The directives urge all bank offices in the country to take necessary and effective measures to prevent dengue.
On Sunday (October 11), the Banking Regulation and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank sent a circular letter regarding this matter to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks in the country.
The central bank's directive stated that breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes are expanding rapidly due to the indiscriminate dumping of garbage, seasonal rainfall, and stagnant water in various locations.
To tackle this situation, it is essential to raise public awareness alongside taking effective action.
According to Bangladesh Bank's instructions, a special program must be observed for the next three months to combat the dengue outbreak.
Furthermore, a special cleanliness drive must be conducted every Saturday to destroy Aedes mosquitoes.
The directive also specified that all premises—including bank head offices, branches, sub-branches, agent outlets, training centers, ATM booths, and their surrounding areas—must be kept clean regularly.
Additionally, to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding sites, abandoned flower pots, cans, tires, plastic bottles, and any other containers that can hold stagnant water must be removed.
Directions were also given to maintain regular cleanliness across building rooftops, garages, air conditioners (ACs), refrigerators, water tanks, and kitchens.
