ONE Bank promotes Bangla QR among retailers in Uttara

ONE Bank PLC organized a Bangla QR awareness program in Uttara Tuesday, in partnership with the shop owners of Zam Zam Tower, to encourage retailers to adopt digital payments and highlight the broader economic benefits of an interoperable digital payment ecosystem.

Muhit Rahman, managing director of ONE Bank PLC, highlighted the importance of Bangla QR in making digital payments more accessible and practical for small businesses.

He also conducted live Bangla QR transactions at participating retail outlets to demonstrate the ease of digital payments.

Speaking at the event, Rahman said: “For small businesses, the value of Bangla QR goes beyond payment convenience. Regular digital transactions can create a financial footprint and provide greater visibility into actual business cash flows. Over time, this can help bring small businesses further into the formal financial system and support their access to working capital and other banking services. This is an important economic opportunity as Bangladesh moves towards a more digitally enabled and less cash-dependent economy.”

The program also highlighted Bangladesh Bank’s measures to reduce the cost of Bangla QR payments, including the waiver of merchant charges and incentives for eligible transactions of up to Tk2,000 processed through the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB).

These initiatives aim to encourage wider acceptance among small retailers and promote everyday digital payments.

Customers can make Bangla QR payments through ONEApp and OK Wallet, offering a convenient way to pay participating merchants using their mobile devices.

The program forms part of ONE Bank’s efforts to support Bangladesh Bank’s vision of an inclusive, digitally enabled and increasingly cashless economy.

By expanding merchant acceptance and consumer adoption, ONE Bank aims to make digital payments a natural part of everyday commerce and contribute to a more connected financial ecosystem in Bangladesh.
