Brac Bank finances Eskayef to expand insulin production in Bangladesh

Brac Bank has extended financing support to Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd., also known as SK+F, to expand its insulin production capacity, supporting greater availability of this essential medicine in Bangladesh and international markets.

One of Bangladesh’s leading pharmaceutical companies, Eskayef has been manufacturing insulin through its long-standing partnership with Danish multinational pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk, the world’s leading insulin producer.

The partnership has enabled Eskayef to produce insulin in both vial and Penfill formats, helping ensure access to quality insulin for patients living with diabetes.

As part of its latest expansion, Eskayef is establishing a third insulin vial production line to significantly enhance its production capacity and meet growing demand at home and abroad.

This impactful financing reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting strategic investments in Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturing sectors.

The expansion is expected to contribute to greater availability of insulin while strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity for an essential, life-saving medicine.

Increased local production can also help reduce import dependency and further strengthen Bangladesh’s position as a pharmaceutical manufacturing and exporting hub.

Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, managing director & CEO of Brac Bank, said: “Expanding insulin production in Bangladesh means strengthening local capacity for a medicine that people depend on every day. By financing Eskayef’s expansion, we are helping build greater healthcare self-reliance while supporting the growth of one of Bangladesh’s most important manufacturing industries.”

Brac Bank’s Wholesale Banking portfolio spans readymade garments, textiles, pharmaceuticals, construction, power & energy infrastructure and other manufacturing industries, with financing increasingly directed towards projects that add capacity, strengthen supply chains and support industrial growth in the country.
