Badiur Rahman has been elected as the chairman and Salim Rahman as chairman of executive committee of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC.
The 464th (emergency) meeting of the board of directors assigned them unanimously on July 16.
Badiur Rahman is sponsor director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank. Professionally he is a prominent businessman both locally and internationally.
Rahman also is one of the directors of AIBL Capital Market Services Ltd., Central Hospital Ltd., Human Resources Development Company Ltd. Millennium Information Solution Ltd. and Hurdco International School.
He is associated with many social-welfare organizations.
Rahman said: “When I was first entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank in 2008, the bank was under the supervision of an observer appointed by Bangladesh Bank. By successfully overcoming those challenges and with the unwavering support and cooperation of all concerned, we were able to lead the bank on a path of sustained growth and prosperity during my eight-year tenure as chairman. In 2026, Bangladesh Bank has once again appointed an observer to Al-Arafah Islami Bank, and at this challenging juncture I have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the board once again. With the cooperation of the Board, management, employees, regulators, and all stakeholders, I will strive to discharge this responsibility with sincerity, dedication, and integrity. Just as we overcame challenges in the past, Al-Arafah Islami Bank will once again recover, regain its momentum, and move forward on the path of sustainable growth.”
Newly elected chairman of executive committee Salim Rahman hails from Chattogram.
His father Khalilur Rahman is a prominent businessman and founder of KDS Group, one of the largest industrial groups of the country.
Salim Rahman is managing director of KDS Group, which consists of KDS Garments Division, KDS Accessories Division, KDS Textile Division, KDS Steel Division, KDS Logistic Division, KDS Finance & Investment Division.
He is first vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Rahman previously served as the chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank for two successful terms in 2021 and 2024.
