The scheduled banks of the country will remain closed for seven days on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Bangladesh Bank has announced that banking activities will be completely closed from May 25 (Monday) to May 31 (Sunday).
The central bank issued a circular on Sunday (May 18) in this regard, where it said that in continuation of the notification of the Ministry of Public Administration, branches and sub-branches of all scheduled banks of the country will be open as per normal schedule on May 23 (Saturday) and May 24 (Sunday).
However, special measures have been taken before Eid to pay salaries, bonuses and other allowances to workers and employees of the readymade garment industry and to keep import-export activities running.
For this, bank branches in Dhaka metropolis, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and RMG-related areas of Chittagong will be open on a limited basis on May 25-26.
According to the Bangladesh Bank instructions, the office hours of bank branches on those two days will be from 10 am to 3 pm. Transactions will continue from 10 am to 1 pm.
In addition, import-export activities have been ordered to continue on a limited basis in bank branches, sub-branches and booths in sea, land and airport areas.
The concerned branches have been asked to continue essential banking activities during the Eid holidays (May 25 to May 31, excluding Eid day).
The instructions also state that officers and employees on duty on holidays will receive allowances as per government rules.
